The year 2000 session of the
Fall Workshop on Geometry and Physics
was organised by the
research group on
Differential Geometry, Dynamical Systems, and Applications
of the
Department of Applied Mathematics IV
(formerly Department of Applied Mathematics and Telematics)
of the
Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).
This web page contains the information about the workshop.
The workshop finished, and the proceedings have been published
(both in paper and electronic form),
so the page is nearly in its final form.
It keeps all the information it contained in the past,
but note that the external links may have become unavailable.
Note also that the
the email address of the Workshop
(geomphys2000@mat.upc.es)
as well as the CGI forms
(for the inscription, the submission of posters, etc)
are no longer active.
There are several informations spread through the page,
but perhaps the most relevant ones are also here:
Presentation
This
series of workshops started in 1992,
and since then they have been organised
by different research institutions
with a slight change of name.
Their aim is to enhance and stimulate cooperation
between the various teams of researchers working in different fields of
Differential Geometry and its applications to some areas of Physics.
They are also designed to give an opportunity to young researchers.
Talks on the latest issues in each field are delivered.
In the year 2000,
as a
satellite activity
of the
3rd European Congress of Mathematics,
the Fall Workshop celebrated a special session
to convey the achievements of these years
to a wider audience.
This resulted in a change
of date (it will be held in summer, some days before the 3ecm),
of language (mainly English)
and of the structure of the programme.
Location and dates
Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia, Spain
6, 7 and 8 July 2000
Vilanova i la Geltrú is a coastal town,
half a way between Barcelona and Tarragona,
near the tourist village of Sitges.
It has a population of 50000,
and is the capital of the Garraf region.
The sessions were held at the lecture hall of the
Technical College of Vilanova i la Geltrú
from
Thursday 6 July morning
to
Saturday 8 July noon.
The college is in the centre of the town, near the train station,
in the Avinguda de Víctor Balaguer.
It is between the Rambla and the Plaça d'Eduard Maristany
on this
map.
More information about the college is available
here
(in English).
Some information useful while the celebration of the workshop
is available

Programme
|
The workshp consisted of 16 invited talks
and a session of (10) posters.
The participants were encouraged to present posters.
The organising committee planned to publish the
proceedings of the workshop,
including the talks and short versions of the posters.
This was successfully done!
Note however that, for different reasons, some of the contributions
to the Workshop did not appear in the Proceedings.
